I was born in January of 1935 and raise for most of my childhood in Galesburg, IL. My father was in the printing business and following the depression as he was looking for better paying employment we lived briefly in Kewanee, IL. and Decatur, IL. As I began first grade we returned to Galesburg and I graduated from Galesburg High School in 1953.
I was baptized at the Central Congregational Church in Galesburg which was my mother’s family church. We later joined Trinity Lutheran Church which was my father’s family church. I was active in Luther League and Boy Scouts and received the Eagle Scout award. After graduating from high school I attended Augustana College, Rock Island, IL and graduated in 1957. I met Marlene Bucherer while at Augustana and we were married in 1958. I attended Augustana Theological Seminary in Rock Island, IL and graduated in 1961 and was ordinated the same year as a minister of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Seattle, WA.
My first parish was two congregations Balsam and Elim Lutheran Churches of Amery, WI where I served from 1961 to 1967. Then I served Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Frederic, WI from 1967 to 1971, Salem Lutheran Church, Ironwood, MI from 1972 to 1977, Grace Lutheran Church, Kenosha, WI from 1977 to 1987, and Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Rockford, IL from 1987 to 2000. I retired from full-time ministry in January of 2000 and have served part-time on the staff of Grace Lutheran Church, Loves Park since September of 2000.
